Dad and Wisdom (Part 1)

This write up will eventually become a series of posts specifically written during my conversations with dad. Whenever I'm on my way home, to school or just spending time with dad, he'll be sure to insert pearls for reflection in his words.
I have been deeply moved by his words and given introspective perspective from these encounters. May you benefit from them just as much, if not more than I have.


Don't try to do too many things yet neglect the important things that matters. Don't chase after the sunnah, maulids, majlis dhikirs and talks by renowned speakers when you can't even fulfil your Wajib obligations. (Menang sekarung, rugi seguni). It's akin to the peribahasa, "cangkul angin". What an absolutely waste of time and energy!

Treat your parents well. Shower them with affection. Listen to their advice and you will see your life bloom. Regardless of all your ibadah, if you do not fulfil your responsibilities as a filial son, then how can you do da'wa to others? Da'wah starts from the household. Most importantly, do da'wa to yourself first and reap its bountiful benefits.

Get your foundations right. Don't try to hurry your learning. Be patient with your time. Solidify your understanding of the principles involved in that knowledge. Learn from the teachers. Be humble towards them for they know that which you do not. Learn the Fardhu Ain, then seerah, then move on to the other things.

What do you really want to become? A student of knowledge one moment, a speaker the next moment, be clear of what you want my son.
